Basketball roundup: Eagles fly by Bravettes; C-Falls girls 8-0

MISSOULA — Maddy Shaide led a balanced Missoula Big Sky attack with 20 points as the Eagles defeated Flathead 58-42 on Thursday in Western AA girls basketball action.

Kendall Monney and Anna Gragg were next on Big Sky’s scoring list with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Big Sky dominated the first half, taking a 27-12 lead at intermission.

Tiana Johnson tossed in 16 points for the Bravettes.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Top-ranked and undefeated Class A Columbia Falls pulled away with a strong second quarter to whip Bigfork in a nonconference matchup.

The Class B Bigfork girls (4-2) were ranked No. 7.

Columbia Falls (8-0) outscored Bigfork 23-6 in the second period to take a 41-18 halftime lead.

Ciera Finberg scored nine of her season and career high 20 points in the second quarter.

Winter Kemppainen added 13 points for the Wildkats.

Katie Thomas paced Bigfork with 12 points. Miranda Campbell had nine.

Columbia Falls outrebounded Bigfork 33-17 and forced 26 turnovers.

Peyton led Columbia Falls in reboundin with six. Assist and steal leaders for The Wildkats were Finberg with three and Ellie Johnson with four, respectively.

WHITEFISH — Eureka jumped out to a 15-6 lead in the opening quarter and held that edge for the majority of play to claim a nonconference victory over Whitefish in a Class B versus Class A matchup.

Whitefish outscored Eureka 13-7 in the fourth quarter to make for an interesting finish.

Amanda Peterson topped Eureka in scoring with 12 points.

Dani Douglas had 15 points for Whitefish. Cailyn Ross added 13.

EUREKA — Whitefish opened an early lead and coasted from there to a 14-point nonconference victory over Eureka in a Class A versus Class B matchup.

Whitefish held a commanding 29-14 lead at intermission. Eureka did outscore Whitefish in the second half, 38-33.

Jack Streibich led Whitefish, and all scorers, with 27 points. Ten of those came in the fourth quarter.

Trey Bohne tallied 24 to pace Eureka. Fourteen of his points came in the fourth quarter with help from three 3s.
