Basketball roundup: Bad 2nd QT dooms Bravettes at CMR

GREAT FALLS — Flathead couldn’t overcome a poor second quarter, falling at Great Falls C.M. Russell 42-32 in a Class AA nonconference girls basketball game on Friday night.

The Bravettes were outscored 15-2 in the second quarter, falling behind 25-10 at halftime. Flathead came out of the break strong, outscoring CMR 12-5, but didn’t have enough to finish the comeback.

Tiana Johnson scored 12 points to lead the Bravettes.

Taylor Edwards led CMR with 11.

LIBBY — Plains outscored Libby 26-12 in the second half to run away with a nonconference victory.

Hailey Phillis had a game-high 14 points for the Trotters.

Shannon Reny had seven points to lead Libby and Shyla Stevenson had six.

GREAT FALLS — Dori Smith knocked down 17 points and Serena Koch followed 13 as Stillwater Christian School beat Foothills Christian School in Montana Christian Athletic Association play.

Koch hit three 3s, two in the fourth quarter.

Smith scored 10 points in the opening half.

Stillwater (8-3) outscored Foothills 28-11 in the middle two quarters to pull away.

Smith just missed a double-double as she pulled down nine rebounds.

Sarah Paolini had a team-high 15 boards for the Crusaders.

The Lions led 36-19 after the third quarter before Troy exploded for 22 points in the final quarter.

Amanda Peterson scored 19 points to lead Eureka. Allie Caldwell had a team-high 14 points for the Trojans.

Libby led by four after the third quarter, but had to hold off a hard charge from the Horsemen.

Jonny Cielak had 16 points to lead the Loggers and Collin Johnson had 13. Ryan Ovitt had 11 to lead Plains.
