Wrestling: C-Falls' Roberts 2nd at Rocky Mountain Classic
MISSOULA — Shonn Roberts of Columbia Falls settled for second place Saturday at the 38th annual Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic.
The three-time Class A state wrestling champion lost to Blake Beard of Central Valley, Washington, in the final at 138, 3-1 in overtime.
Roberts and Beard both won one-point decisions earlier in the day during the semifinal round.
The loss was the second of the season for Roberts. Last year he went 39-0.
The Columbia Falls senior won the 126-pound title here last year. He was fourth at 112 his sophomore year and second at 98 as a freshman.
Columbia Falls placed 11th in the team standings with a 82-point total.
Glacier (72.5) was 16th, Flathead (69) 17th, Libby (55.5) 19th and Polson (44) 27th.
Columbia Falls had three in the semifinals, but Mason Fetters (120) and Haze Bell (126) both lost in that round. Bell finished fourth and Fetters fifth.
Libby’s Zach Crace (152) also lost his semifinal match. He came back to finish third.
Flathead’s Trae Vasquez (113) wound up third to lead the Braves.
Glacier’s top placer was Quinn Barber (152), who was fifth.
Polson’s Parker Adler (120) and Mike Corrigan (205) were both eighth.
