Richard Alan Farrington, 67

| January 20, 2015 3:08 PM

Richard Alan Farrington passed away peacefully in his home in Kalispell on Monday Jan. 5, 2015, at age 67.

Dick was born Sept. 27, 1947, in Red Oak, Iowa, to Louis and Erline Farrington. After graduating from Red Oak High School in 1965, he enlisted in the Air Force and served as photographer for the base newspaper at Clinton Sherman Air Force Base in Oklahoma.

He married Carol Black in 1968 and they had two children. They later divorced and he and the children moved back to Red Oak. There he met Michelle Maginn Smith. Together they moved their combined four children to Montana in 1978, where Dick worked in Glacier National Park on the Trail of the Cedars and Going-to-the-Sun Road. They built a beautiful log home in Kila, had two children, and enjoyed many happy, memorable years.

Dick was a free-spirited and adventurous soul. He was huge-hearted, eccentric, intelligent and loved a good debate. He was an avid Oakland Raiders fan and was thrilled to have attended a game. He enjoyed photography, travel, his many collections and played an active role in his kids' sports and activities. Dick loved his children and grandchildren deeply.

He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Erline and William Haroff.

He is survived by his wife Michelle, father Louis Farrington, and sister Peggy Templeton, all of Kalispell; stepmother, Myra Damewood, of Red Oak; children, Angela Poe and husband Jim of Kalispell, Robert Farrington and wife Christine of Whitefish, Shannon Pederson and husband Jon of Missoula, Clinton Farrington and wife Ashley of Kalispell, Wendy Maiello and husband Vincent of Bellmore, New York, and Michael Smith and wife Marie of Kalispell; and 12, soon-to-be 13, grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.

Thank you to everyone who was a part of his life.
