Johnson writes what she knows. She comes from a musical family who provide encouragement, support and inspiration. She uses her life experiences and relationships to give her music a no-nonsense realism and appeal.
Johnson finds musical influence in everything she listens to. She especially likes music with a strong hip-hop sound, and incorporates that into her own writing as well. The result is an “ecclectic and very unique style.”
This is not Johnson’s first singing competition. She has also competed in the annual Country Showdown. For her this event is about connecting with other artists.
“I’m excited to be able to meet all the other artists on the bill,” Johnson said. “It’s great to be part of this local community of musicians.”
Immediately following the Singer/Songwriter Showdown, Johnson will leave for a West Coast tour with the Matt Bacnis Band. Over the summer she is planning to record an album, and is hoping to release the new material by the end of the year.
