Basketball: Stevi stings Pirates at buzzer

POLSON — The Pirates nonconference loss came at the hands of Stevensville’s Jace Omlid, whose 3-pointer beat the buzzer in overtime and gave the Yellow Jackets a 61-60 road victory on Tuesday.

Omlid finished with 10 points for Stevensville (1-12). Teammate Bryce Torrey led all scorers with 21.

Polson (3-8) was led by Matthew Rensvold, who dropped 17 points for a team-high. Tanner Wilson added 15 and Andrew Curley scored 10.

Polson travels to Frenchtown on Friday for Northwest A action at 7:30 p.m.

BIGFORK — No. 1-ranked Bigfork outscored St. Ignatius 22-9 in the second quarter en route to a 79-50 home nonconference victory on Tuesday night.

Four Vikings reached double figures in the win.

Isaac Martel finished with a team-high 15 points and seven assists. He was joined by Jonathan Landon, who also scored 15.

Josh Sandry poured in 14 points, and Adam Jordt scored 12 points to go along with his seven assists.

Despite being outrebounded 33-30, Bigfork committed just 12 turnovers in the contest while forcing the Bulldogs to turn the ball over on 28 occasions.

“The boys played really well,” Bigfork head coach Sam Tudor said.

“They got to shoot it, they got to run it a little bit and we’re getting healthy again. We were battling some illnesses, but I thought they played pretty well.”

Bigfork (11-1) will head to Whitefish for nonconference road action on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

RONAN — Plauged by a slow start, the Ronan Indians shot just 3 for 32 in the first half of their 85-45 loss to Loyola Sacred Heart on Tuesday.

The Rams were led by Kevin Swanson’s 23-point effort. He was joined in double figures by teammate Lochlin Ermitinger, who finished with 15 points.

The Indians saw Cedrick Earthboy and Colton McCrea each chip in nine points. Rhett Duffey finsihed with eight points for Ronan.

MISSOULA — The Wolfpack took an early lead before holding off a determined Missoula Hellgate squad for a 45-39 Western AA road victory on Tuesday.

Glacier (10-1) stormed out to a 29-18 hlaftime lead, but managed just six points in the third quarter as the Knights scored 12 to pull within five.

The Wolfpack, led by Katie Wiley’s nine points, held on in the fourth for a six-point victory.

Hailee Bennett scored eight points for Glacier, and Tessa Krueger poured in seven.

The Wolfpack takes on Flathead in crosstown action on Thursday at 6 p.m.

ST. IGNATIUS — Paced by Miranda Campbell’s double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds, the Bigfork Valkyries stormed to a 57-41 road nonconference victory on Tuesday.

Marissa Hiza also scored 10 points while grabbing nine boards for Bigfork.  Lana Berg finished with a team-high 20 points.

St. Ignatius saw Irene Lopez  score a game-high 25 points — 21 of which came from behind the arc as she sunk seven 3-pointers in the contest.

Bigfork is back in action on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Whitefish.

STEVENSVILLE — The Lady Pirates (1-10) surrendered their three-point halftime lead in a 30-21 nonconference road loss to Stevensville (2-11) on Tuesday.

Lauren Lefthand led Polson with eight points. Nichole Lake added seven.

Both Carly Sebastian and Payton Tillotson scored 11 points for the Yellow Jackets, who outscored Polson 20-8 in the second half.

Polson is back in action at home against Frenchtown on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Alicia Camel had a game-high 17 points. lee Camel and Micalann McCrea also finished in double figures, scoring 15 and 12, respectively.
