Basketball roundup: Columbia Falls downs Eureka

EUREKA — Class B Eureka pushed top-ranked Columbia Falls for all four quarters before falling 55-45 in a nonconference boys basketball game on Thursday evening.

Class A Columbia Falls (12-2 overall) gradually pulled away in the final half by outscoring Eureka (5-8) 31-22.

Columbia Falls held a 24-23 edge at intermission.

Ty Morgan, who was 6 for 6 from the foul line in the fourth quarter for Columbia Falls, led all scorers with 21 points.

Teammate Grant Wallace added 10.

Chase Bohne, who hit four 3s, led Eureka with 19 points.

Michael Peterson added 12 points and Trey Bohne 10 for the Lions.

WHITEFISH — Top-ranked Class B Bigfork needed a big second half to pull away from Class A Whitefish in a nonconference matchup.

Bigfork (13-1) outscored Whitefish 33-16 in the final half.

Whitefish (5-8) held a 20-19 lead at the half.

Isaac Martel splurged for 17 points to pace Bigfork. Josh Sandry added 15.

AJ Wetsch led Whitefish with 14 points.

Isaac Neumann tallied 21 points and Clayton Hashley was close behind with 20 to help Stillwater Christian School spill Flathead Valley Home School in a Montana Christian Athletic Association contest at Swan River School.

Stillwater (7-9) exploded for 34 points in the third period.

Jordan Sproul led Flathead Valley with a game-high 29 points. Sproul had seven of his team’s 12 treys.

WHITEFISH — Lana Berg scored 13 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebrounds to lead Class B Bigfork to a 20-point win over Class A Whitefish.

Bigfork (10-3) pulled away with an 18-point third quarter for a 33-17 lead.

Allie Schulz had nine points for Whitefish (2-11) on 3 of 5 shooting from 3-point range.

Cailyn Ross had a game-high nine rebounds for Whitefish.

Bigfork held a big scoring edge at the free-throw line, going 18 for 33. Whitefish had just five attempts and made three.

The battle under the boards was close as Bigfork had 37, just four more than Whitefish.

Class A Columbia Falls (13-1) led 41-9 at the half.

Winter Kemppainen led a balanced Columbia Falls attack with 19 points. Ciera Finberg and Cydney Finberg both scored 14 points.

Amanda Peterson dropped in 12 points for Eureka (5-8).

Stillwater Christian School battled back from a slow start to drop Flathead Valley Home School in a Montana Christian Athletic Association game at Swan River School.

Stillwater (11-3, 4-0) trailed 9-2 after the first eight minutes, but rebounded to lead 17-16 at the half and 32-27 heading into the fourth quarter.

Sarah Paolini, 13, and Dori Smith, 12, were scoring leaders for Stillwater.

Paolini had 19 rebounds to eight for Smith.

Flathead Valley’s Lexi Ehlers led all scorers with 17 points.
