Basketball roundup: Tinkle scores 23, Hellgate blows out Flathead, 69-33

MISSOULA — Flathead fell behind early, trailing 25-12 after the opening quarter and 41-13 at the half in a 69-33 Western AA boys basketball loss to top-ranked Missoula Hellgate on Saturday.

Flathead (4-8 overall, 1-3 league) was just 10 of 44 shooting from the field.

Tres Tinkle tallied 23 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to pace Hellgate (11-1, 4-1).

Also in double figure scoring for the Knights were Davin Bray with 13, Rhett Baerlocher with 12 and Easton Packard with 10.

Matt Marshall had 10 points to lead Flathead.

Hellgate also whipped Glacier on Tuesday, 73-42.

PLAINS — A wild fourth quarter helped Eureka slip by Plains in a District 7B matchup.

Eureka exploded for 27 points in the final eight minutes while Plains tallied 23.

Trey Bohne led Eureka’s attack with 27 points. Chase Bohne had 16 and RJ Glover 14.

Ryan Ovitt scored 20 for Plains. Aaron Baker added 19.

FRENCHTOWN — A big second quarter helped Frenchtown pull away for a Northwestern A victory over Whitefish.

Frenchtown, leading 9-2, outscored Whitefish 22-9 in the second quarter to take a 31-11 lead at intermission.

Whitefish played Frenchtown on even terms in the second half.

Dani Douglas tallied 10 points for Whitefish.

Lacy Hochhalter led Frenchtown with 14 points and nine rebounds.
