Flathead wrestlers pull sweep in Helena
HELENA — Flathead recorded three pins and won seven of the 13 matches to edge Helena High in a Western AA dual wrestling match on Saturday that ended in a virtual draw. The Braves won the 30-30 match tie by criteria, 31-30.
Trey Vasquez (113), Payton Hume (132) and Payton Boyce (205) all recorded first-period pins for the Braves and Cody Devall (103), Tyler Davis (145), Anthony Wright (160) and Cody Howe (285) won by decision.
It was just enough to cover three pins and a forfeit win from the Bengals.
The Braves had a much easier time at Capital, winning 36-21 with two pins and four major decisions.
Austin Gabbert (126) and Riley Leigh (285) each earned pins for Flathead. Cody Devall, Vasquez, Davis and Wright all went 2-for-2 on the trip.
Next up for Flathead is the Western AA seeding tournament on Saturday at Glacier.

HELENA — Helena High won eight matches, including three pins and two technical falls, to beat Glacier in a Western AA dual.
Sam Barber (132), Kellen Bemis (205) and Eli Horn (285) all recorded pins for the Wolfpack and Cody Decker (138) and Quinn Barber (152) decisions in the loss.
At Capital, Justin Gibson (103), Decker and Arik Lybeck (160) earned pins and Quinn Barber a technical fall in another Wolfpack dual loss.
Decker and Quinn Barber were the only Glacier wrestlers to go 2-for-2 on the trip.
Glacier hosts the Western AA seeding tournament on Saturday.
