Jessica Loyda leads Glacier swimmers

HELENA — Swimmers from Columbia Falls, Flathead and Glacier wrapped up their regular-season scheduled on Saturday with more fast times and high places at the Bohn-Morer Invitational.

Flathead posted 30 best times in events to Glacier’s 25.

“Overall we had some great swims, fast times,” Flathead/Glacier swim coach Dave Lillard said. “Pretty impressive for this point of season.”

Lillard said his swimmers will rest up and prepare for the State Swim Meet in Missoula on Feb. 13-14.

Glacier had one individual winner on the day with Jessica Loyda taking first place in the 50 freestyle. Her 25.72 time ranks her near the top statewide.

She also finished third in the 100 freestyle (57.65).

Also posting best times for Glacier were Jackie Stenberg in the 50 and 100 freestyle; Tessa Howe in the 100 breaststroke; Emma Hornby in the 100 backstroke; Olivia Gibson in the 200 individual medley; and Keegan Mackenstadt in the 50 and 100 freestyle.

Gibson finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:25.86) and third in the 100 butterfly (1:05.13).

Lillard said Mackenstadt “jumped into the relays” to fill in for an sick swimmer and performed exceptionally well.

Best times for Flathead were turned in by Amalia Csapler in 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley; Josh Gruber in the 100 backstroke; Ethan Timm in the 100 freestyle; Joe Zanni in the 100 freestyle; Delanie Eliason in the 100 and 500 freestyle; Greta Cole in the 100 freestyle; and Kendrea Leaming in the 100 and 200 freestyle.

Leaming improved her 200 freestyle time by 20 seconds.

Columbia Falls’ Colton Babcock was second in both the 50 (22.79) and 200 (1:49.60) freestyle and Karyssa Nelson was second in the 50 freestyle (27.28).

Glacier’s James Bouda was third in the 50 freestyle (23.37) and 100 breaststroke (1:07.18).
