Baseball roundup: Lakers split at Harp

The Kalispell Lakers A split opening-day action at the John R. Harp American Legion baseball tournament.

Okotoks (Alberta) scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 13-12 win over the Lakers on the final game of the day Friday at Griffin Field.

Kalispell and Cranbrook opened the three-day event at noon at Archie Roe Field with the Lakers holding off a late rally by the Bandits for a 13-11 victory.

In the win over Cranbrook, Haydn Schlepp, 3 for 3, Torin Bowden, 4 for 4, and Eric Seaman, 0 for 0, had three RBIs each.

Schlepp doubled twice and Bowden once.

Dawson Smith was also perfect at the plate, 2 for 2, and Spencer Pisk drove in two runs.

Cranbrook scored seven times in the fifth to make it close.

Kalispell held an 11-9 lead on Okotoks after three innings.

Schlepp, 3 for 3, tripled in that outing.

Bowden had a double.

Bowden, Cade White and Jonas Nyman had two RBIs each.

Kalispell has two games today — noon versus Medicine Hat at Archie Roe Field and 7:30 p.m. versus Priest River at Griffin Field.

The tournament ends Sunday.

WHITEFISH — James Sampson-Keck doubled to center field to drive in two runs in the second second inning and Jonny Sapa won a pitcher’s battle with Mason Wells of Spokane as the Glacier Twins posted a victory over the Dodgers during second-day action at the 31st annual Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial American Legion baseball tournament at Memorial Field.

Sapa went the distance on the mound, giving up one hit — a home run in the second inning to Jackson Sumner. Sapa had four strike outs and walked none in seven innings.

Wells was just as impressive. He checked the Twins on one hit, had five strikeouts and walked two.

Glacier (29-10) is 2-0 in tournament play.

The Twins are back in action today with two games — 11:30 a.m. versus the Spokane Mead Panthers and 4:30 p.m. versus the Lethbridge Elks.

The tournament ends Sunday.

LEWISTON, Idaho — The Nampa (Idaho) Braves scored in every inning but the fifth in rolling past the Libby Loggers in second-day action at the Clancy Ellis Memorial Tournament.

Jared Winslow went 3 for 4 at the plate to lead the Logger offense.

Winslow doubled and Collin Johnson tripled for the Loggers’ two extra-base hits.

Both team had just six hits.

Libby plays the Owyhee (Idaho) RiverCats today at 11:30 a.m. in Pool B action. Libby won Thursday’s opener over the LC Cubs 12-9. Oliver Grupenhoff, 2 for 4, doubled and homered and drove in four runs for Libby. Teammate Trace Tamarro, 2 for 3, doubled twice and had two RBI. Winslow also had two RBI.

The tournament ends Sunday.
