Legion baseball: Twins sweep Mavs

WHITEFISH — The Glacier Twins  stormed through the Missoula Mavericks in Game 1 of an American Legion doubleheader before holding off a late Missoula rally in the nightcap to pick up two wins on Friday night, sweeping the Mavericks at Memorial Field.

Glacier scored four runs in the first three innings of the opener and finished its offensive performance with four more runs in the fifth inning alone.

Jayce Fagerland went 3 for 4 with a double while Johnny Sapa earned the win on the mound.

Game 2 was a nail-biter.

Taking a 6-2 lead into the top of the seventh inning, Glacier surrendered three runs before recording the final out for a 6-5 victory.

Vinny Smith went 2 for 4 with three RBIs for Glacier, who is back in action on Sunday with a nine-inning contest against the Kalispell Lakers A in the season finale.

First pitch is schedule for 7 p.m.
