Legion baseball: Lakers AA beat up Miners
BUTTE — The Kalispell Lakers AA put on quite the offensive show to wrap up regular-season play on Saturday afternoon.
The Lakers swept the American Legion baseball doubleheader with the Butte Miners, 14-5 and 11-1.
Kalispell had 26 hits in the two games.
In the 14-5 victory, Walker Malmin went 2 for 4 and drove in three runs.
Patrick O’Connell, Leif Ericksen and Sam Crompton had two hits and two RBI each.
Andrew Schleusner had two hits and one RBI.
Crompton, Brandon Maassen and Logan Decock held the Miners to three singles.
The Lakers scored in every inning but the fourth.
In the 11-1 triumph, Malmin went 3 for 3 with three RBI.
O’Connell, Ericksen and Jayson Combs each drove in two runs.
The Lakers did all of their scoring in two innings — six runs in the first and five in the third.
Pitchers Robert Reaser and Malmin checked the Miners on four hits.
Kalispell streaks to the state tournament in Helena having won eight of its last 11 games. State play begins Wednesday and ends August 1.
