This much anticipated section features the results of your votes in our annual poll to gauge what our readers think are the very best businesses, doctors, artists, restaurants — you name it!

In fact, there are more categories than ever — 140 to be exact — so this year’s publication is the biggest yet, 40 pages, and it will contain some old favorites, plus new winners showing up for the first time.

This year’s contest had more than 4,150 registered users who cast more than 72,000 votes. Features Editor Lynnette Hintze has overseen the project from the beginning, but fortunately she didn’t have to count all those votes by hand! The online voting was counted automatically, which allowed us to get on to the important business of contacting the winners right away.

Speaking of the winners, we congratulate all of you — from first place to honorable mention. You have proven yourselves to have what it takes for success.

To our readers, thanks for participating in the contest. We couldn’t have done it without you, and we hope you will also stop by to congratulate the winners when you have a chance.

Hooray! Logan Pass opens

The popularity of Logan Pass in Glacier National Park was quickly reinforced Wednesday morning when the parking lot filled with vehicles soon after the pass reopened after a weeklong closure.

Motorists still can’t drive east of the pass with the Reynolds Creek Fire continuing to burn in close proximity to the road, but visitors flocked swiftly to the pass anyway.

Not only is the pass the high point on the scenic roadway, but it also provides access to the hugely popular Hidden Lake and Highline trails.

Although Logan Pass has reopened (kudos to Glacier Park officials in this regard), motorists need to exercise a little patience because congestion is expected as Glacier enthusiasts converge on the pass. It’s advisable that people take advantage of the free shuttle service or concession-run transport services to reduce the crowds on Sun Road.
