He graduated from Great Falls High School and earned his Bachelor of Arts in business administration through the College of Great Falls. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1947.

Jack worked in Great Falls at his father’s First Federal Savings and Loan until he retired as president. Jack met Clarice Graves in 1947, while she worked at the Savings and Loan. They were married in 1949, and had three children, Kent (deceased), Jamie and Sally. In 1972, Clarice suffered a brain aneurysm and passed away.

Jack met Sandra Metzger in 1983, and they were married in 1984. Sandra brought seven children into the marriage. Sandra’s children are Rich, Keith, Jill (deceased), Patsy, Jami, Maggie and Tim.

Jack enjoyed working with his hands, working with wood, building furniture and landscaping. He was very detail oriented. He was an active member of his communities, volunteering and teaching Bible studies. Jack worked on the city council and was mayor of Great Falls in the 1970s. He loved to walk and was quite a recognizable figure in his red beret.

The family especially appreciates the loving care that Jack received from the Montana Veterans Home.
