David G. Townsend, 86

| March 14, 2015 8:45 PM

David G. Townsend passed away March 11, 2015, from a broken heart surrounded by the love of family, prayers of friends, and caring nurses of Brendan House.

Dave was born June 27, 1928, to Jesse Hennessy and Spike Townsend where they resided in Seattle through his youth.

David joined the Merchant Marines at age 16 and sailed across the equator before he was 18. Dave moved to Kalispell in 1947 to work for his uncle “Hugh” Hennessy at Hennessy’s Steak House and returned to school to receive his high school diploma from Flathead High.

Mary Anne (Wormley) Townsend stole David’s heart in 1950. They married and moved to California and then on to Arlington, Oregon, where Dave managed a John Deere Dealership.

The two returned to the Flathead and purchased the Stockman’s Bar in 1964. Dave would remain in the bar industry for 35 years operating the Stockman’s, Hole in the Wall and Branding Iron. Dave enjoyed fishing, boating, skiing, hunting, family, friends and of course, ice cold beer, living life’s motto “Don’t do anything today that can wait until tomorrow” and carrying the brand, Lazy SOB.

Dave was preceded in death by Mary Anne in November 2013 after 63 years of marriage.

He is survived by his son, Bruce Townsend, of Austin, Texas; grandson, Brad Townsend, and wife Destiny, and great-grandchildren, Zayden and Abbigail, of Kalispell; granddaughter, Jessica Townsend, and Shane Terrel, and great-grandchildren, Chance and Trinity, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; and granddaughter, Jazmin Townsend, of Kalispell.

Funeral services are postponed for a joint service of Dave and Mary Anne Townsend.
