Work harder at peace

| March 16, 2015 9:00 PM

The number of things that honor veterans never ceases to amaze me. We have statues, roads, bridges, parks, etc. This year, the Whitefish Winter Carnival even had something to do with veterans.

If we truly wanted to honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice and those who have come back maimed, we would work harder at peace.

I have said since I was a kid, “If our leaders want war, give them each a .45 pistol and let them settle it like men. Don’t send the youth.”

We have to be at peace with ourselves and those around us. Our system seems to be driven by materialism. Everybody wants more of everything. War is good for business.

My heart goes out to every family who loses a loved one, especially in war. Many of these men and women have no alternatives. Many have been sucked in by the promise of training and “a good career.”

I found a bumper sticker that reads, “If war is hell, why do we send so many good people there?”
