Les 'Butlow' L. Grigg, 79

Les “Butlow” L. Grigg, 79, died of renal failure on March 5, 2015, with his wife Sandy by his side at the HealthCenter in Kalispell. 

Les loved and lived a full good life. Wherever his travels had taken him, he always returned to his Columbia Falls roots.

Les grew up in Columbia Falls and was the youngest son of George and Florence (Blood) Grigg. He was a true Columbia Falls boy who loved the Flathead. He could be found hunting the North Fork, fishing off the Old Silver Bridge or from the streams of the Hungry Horse Reservoir.

Les enlisted in the Navy and honorably served in the Korean War. After the war, Les started his vast working career. Adventurous and handy with all tools, he worked as a straddle-bug driver at Plum Creek Lumber, an electronic tech for Philco in Greenland, a heavy equipment operator in San Francisco, a field service specialist for Bailey Valve in Oakland, California, a machinist in San Leandro, California, and finally as an owner/operator of a small firewood business back in Columbia Falls.

Retiring in Columbia Falls, Les spent his free time fishing, hunting, outdoor photography and gardening. He was politically well-informed, followed the news and was an avid reader. He was our family “factoid junkie.” His intelligence, witty sense of humor, adventurous outlook of life and his shared love of the family card game “31” will be greatly missed.

Les was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Emma, David “Bud,” Ernie and Vivian; and a son, Leslie Grigg II.

Les is survived by wife, Sandy Grigg, and these days a lovely blended family — three daughters, Kimi Grigg, Lu Ann Grigg and Sandra Caroompas; son, David Grigg, and wife Sarah; brother, Bill Horak, and wife, Brenda; two sisters, Susie (Grigg) Huggins and Maxine (Horak) Lettman and husband Fred; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held for friends and family in late July in Columbia Falls.
