Track and Field: Jumping into the season

Flathead won 15 girls events and 13 boys events as it kicked its track and field season with a dual against Whitefish on Thursday at Legends Stadium.

Bobby Lowry won four events for the Braves, sweeping the sprints with an 11.61-second finish in the 100-meter dash and a 24.34-second win in the 200. He also took the long jump with a leap of 20 feet and the triple jump with a span of 39-7. He was the only winner of multiple events on the boys side, that saw Flathead finish high in every event.

Defending Class A state javelin champion Luke May easily won his first event of the season, tossing the javelin 162-7 and winning by more than 17 feet.

The Bulldogs’ Keaton Grove won the 300 hurdles and the Whitefish boys swept the relays.

Flathead’s Janae Moon won three events for the Bravettes, sweeping the jumps. Moon won the high jump, clearing 4-11, the long jump with a leap of 16-3 and the triple jump at 34-1.

The Bravettes’ Gillian Maness won both distance events, finishing the 1,600 in 5:14.61 and the 3,200 in 11:31.11. Monica White swept the sprints, winning the 100 in 13.2 seconds and the 200 in 27.45.

Allie Shulz was the only individual event winner for the Bulldogs, taking the 100 hurdles in 16.97 seconds. The Whitefish girls also won the 400 relay.

Flathead will hold practices at 10 a.m. during next week’s spring break in preparation for a dual against Great Falls C.M. Russell at noon on Thursday.
