Golf: Potkonjak ties for 2nd at divisionals
HELENA — Bigfork junior Joseph Potkonjak finished in a tie for second place, shooting a 3-over-par 75 to lead the Vikings to a third place team finish at the Class B divisional golf tournament at Bill Roberts Golf Club on Tuesday.
Potkonjak finished one stroke back of divisional champion Tommy Tirrell of Missoula Loyola-Sacred Heart and tied with Townsend’s Scott DeMars. Bigfork’s Colton Stodghill and Ronan’s Fisher Niemeyer finished in a tie for 10th place to also qualify for individual play at state, which will be played at Pryor Creek and Eagle Rock golf courses in Billings next week.
Townsend won the boys team title. Ronan finished ninth and Eureka 11th.
Chase Bohne led Eureka, shooting 92.
Ronan’s Brooklyn Olson finished tied for 10th on the girls side and the Maidens’ Lauryn Hales was 15th. Ronan placed fourth as a team.
Eureka placed seventh as a team, led by Nikoda Vandeberg’s 129. Kallister Potkonjak shot 113 to lead Bigfork’s two-person team.
Loyola-Sacred Heart won the girls team title and Townsend’s Anna DeMars won the individual divisional championship as the two-time defending state champion Bulldogs finished two strokes back of the divisional title.
