Softball: Whitefish softball drops pair in Cut Bank

CUT BANK — The Whitefish Bulldogs softball team dropped a pair of nonconference contest in Cut Bank on Tuesday, falling to Shelby 18-7 before losing to Cut Bank 20-10.

The Bulldogs (1-14 overall, 0-6 Northwest A) put up a run in each of the first three innings against Shelby — the first game of the day.

Shelby responded with nine runs in the bottom half of the opening inning and scored six more in the second to cruise to the victory.

Whitefish was lead at the plate by lead-off hitter Grace Porterfield and Lauren McDonald. They both went 2 for 3, and teammate Abby Reese hit a triple for the Bulldogs.

Whitefish fell behind early in Game 2 against Cut Bank, going scoreless in the first two innings while the Wolves put up two in each.

The Bulldogs cut the deficit to one run with a three-run third inning, but Cut Bank put of six in the bottom half.

Porterfield continued her hot streak in Game 2, going 4 for 4. McDonald finished 3 for 4 and both Savannah Eisenbarth and Halle Reading 2-2 went 2 for 2.
