Search parties called out for prank

An 11-year-old told a front desk employee that a 7-year-old had wandered off from the U.S. 2 hotel. The Kalispell Police Department and other agencies sent out search assistance. Eventually, they found the mother of the 11-year-old, who lived nearby, and explained that it was a cruel hoax and there was no lost 7-year-old.

An officer helped to clean up a bucket full of tools that scattered all over West Washington Street after falling out of a truck.

A driver told police that another driver was just casually drinking a beer while moving down U.S. 93.

Police arrested a woman who reportedly drank a bottle of fingernail polish remover and claimed that she could fly.

There was a report of a bus driver pushing an 8-year-old kid into the bus seat.

A pedestrian was struck by a car in a Hutton Ranch Road parking lot.

Someone broke into a car lot on West Idaho Street and got into two campers, according to a report.

An intoxicated woman was purportedly trying to enter multiple rooms at a First Avenue West business.

There was a man sitting with a rifle in front of an East Center Street business, according to one call. Police were unable to find him.

A Garden Way resident saw a creepy sight, according to her report. There was somebody with a headlamp hiding in the bushes outside the house. The resident decided to stay somewhere else for the night.

Someone reportedly drove away from a minor crash on Claremont Street, but not before leaving a note that said “sorry.”

Officers found the suspect in another hit-and-run on U.S. 93 North. This time, a pickup damaged a sports car with a personalized license plate. The offending driver was remorseful but guilty.

Police caught up with a couple who were reportedly “running and fighting” down U.S. 2 near Kalispell. After the altercation, the two didn’t want to press any charges.


Someone found a stray goat on U.S. 2 near Kalispell and reported them to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office. The owner was eventually located.

A landlord complained that a tenant was leaving “trash” on property. That might not be a big deal, except the trash was reportedly 60-100 tires piled in the yard.

Dispatch received multiple calls about houses being shot with paint balls near Conrad Drive.

A welfare check was requested for an elderly man who had left the door to his pickup open for three days on Three Mile Drive. The man turned out to be well and had left his truck open on purpose.

Two guests at an East Idaho Street hotel reportedly left without paying and were suspected of drunken driving.

Multiple reports came in about gun fire between Whitefish and Olney. One person heard three explosions and “small arms” fire. Another heard “a machine gun.”

A driver ran over a fallen street light on U.S. 2 near Kalispell and then called the Sheriff’s Office.

According to a report, a man yelled “This is how I hike” at a random person, who turned around and saw the man with his pants around his ankles. This happened outside of Kalispell.


The Whitefish Police Department received a report that somebody “from a different country” had hacked into the caller’s computer.

An unlocked car was broken into on West Second Street, resulting in the loss of $70 in cash.

A witness said that somebody hit a dog with a car on Baker Avenue, put the animal in a white plastic bag and left the area.


A Seventh Street West resident told the Columbia Falls Police Department about “bumping and thumping” noises coming from the exterior of the house.

A high school student reportedly threatened to scratch another student’s new car, as well as her face, according to one report.
