POLSON — Sarah Rausch belted a three-run homer in the first inning to head a five-run opening frame and lead Polson to a 6-5 Northwestern A conference victory over Columbia Falls on Thursday.

Rausch’s lone hit in the contest was one of nine the Pirates picked up against the Wildkats, scoring what turned into the game-winning run in the third inning. Jaiden Toth, Kaelen Wall and Kaelyn Smith each had two hits as Polson left 11 runners on base.

Ashley Trueblood was 2 for 3 from the plate with a double and three RBIs for Columbia Falls, which scored a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings to cut the deficit to one run, but the rally fell short.

“(Columbia Falls) started coming on, hitting the ball well,” Polson coach Larry Smith said. “Our girls were getting outs when necessary.”

Both teams are headed to the Mining City this weekend to participate in the Butte Central Invite today and Saturday.

Columbia Falls wraps up the regular season with away games on May 14 at Libby and May 15 at Frenchtown.

Polson’s final two games are at home, May 14 versus Whitefish and May 15 versus Libby.
