Softball: Wall homers twice for Polson
BUTTE — Polson senior Kaelen Wall had a pair of homers, a double and four RBIs to lead the Pirates to a pair of wins at the Laverne Combo on Friday.
Polson opened the tournament with a rousing 5-4 win over Billings Central, a team that had just two losses entering the game.
The Pirates fell down 4-0 after three innings but scored five in the fourth, Wall batting in a pair with a single in the inning. The game was called on time limit after five innings.
Nine different players picked up a hit for the Pirates in the win.
Polson didn’t need the dramatics in their second game of the day, topping Livingston 10-0 in five innings.
The Pirates scored six runs in the fifth to end the game early. Wall had a home run, a double and two RBIs. Jaiden Toth was 3 for 4 from the plate with four RBIs.
“When (Wall is) on it she hits very hard,” Polson coach Larry Smith said. “Both home runs were line drives. Just bombs. Not much height but they were hard hit.”
The Pirates play games against Sidney and Havre today at the tournament.
Libby and Columbia Falls also won a pair of games on the opening day, on what was a great showing from the Northwestern A.
The Loggers scored 11 runs in four innings to top Lewistown 11-2. Abby Ennenga was 2 for 3 from the plate with a home run.
In its other contest, Libby responded from a 3-0 deficit to beat Glendive 4-3. Three different Loggers had two hits in the game, led by Devon Gallagher’s 2 for 3 performance with a home run and two RBIs.
Columbia Falls beat Glendive 10-3 and Lewistown 10-0. Lottie Ellis and Katie Price each had home runs against Glendive and Ashley Trueblood held the Red Devils to five hits.
Whitefish fell to Anaconda 15-2.
