Nicosia wins 3 events for Wildkats at ABC track meet

POLSON — The Flathead Valley was well represented at Saturday’s ABC track and field meet, claiming 10 individual first-place finishes and two relay titles.

On the girls side, Columbia Falls’ Carla Nicosia won three events. The senior swept the hurdles, winning the 100s in 16.29 seconds and the 300s in 49.40. She also won the triple jump with a mark of 36 feet, 7.5 inches.

Teammate Samantha Mundel won the 1,600 and the 3,200, and the Wildkats finished third in the team standings with 93 points.

The Whitefish Lady Bulldogs came in fourth (77.5 points). Grace Kurtz won both the 200 (27.55) and the 400 (1:00.85). She also finished second in the 100.

Corvallis won both team titles.

Whitefish’s boys squad finished third in the team standings. Tommy Sausen was the lone champion for the Bulldogs, winning the pole vault (13-6). Teammate Keaton Grove finished second in both 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Columbia Falls’ Nathan Riley and Stephen Lindsey took the long and triple jump titles, respectively.

The Wildcats were fifth in the team standings.
