Inner tube return no cause for alarm

A man called the Whitefish Police Department to report his son had attempted to return an inner tube to a watercraft rental shop only to find the building abandoned but unlocked. The burglar alarm went off, and the caller wanted police to know that his son didn’t take anything.

An Armory Road woman was surprised to find out her daughter had pocket-dialed 911. The daughter was terrified police were going to come to their door, but dispatch told her there was no need for that.

A caller on Railway Street was reportedly incensed that the driver of a fishing boat was going extremely fast down the Whitefish River. Officers stopped the boat and advised the four men in the craft of a wake zone. This wasn’t enough for the original caller, who proceeded to engage the driver in an verbal argument. Officers told them to knock it off.

A man wearing a white helmet allegedly started a fire near Railway Street, prompting a call from a citizen about the “very illegal” activities. The firestarter was a transient and he was told to move along.

A Baker Avenue woman had a nice backyard camping trip with her daughter spoiled when a large man allegedly started tugging on the tent. She bolted inside with her daughter and called the cops, reporting she was “shaky and scared.”


The Columbia Falls Fire Department took a call from a man who was reportedly threatened by a near-stranger. The caller said that due to the man’s violent past, he was concerned he was in danger.

A woman on Ninth Street West called the police after she got off work and found she had been robbed. Prescription medication had been taken out of her purse.


The Kalispell Fire Department responded quickly to a structure fire on the 300 block of Fifth Avenue West. The flames were knocked down quickly, but the building — a split apartment building — had its siding melted.
