LIBBY — The Kalispell Lakers AA scored eight runs in the second inning and held Libby to just six hits to top the Loggers 13-1 in eight innings of nonconference American Legion baseball on Tuesday night.

Patrick O’Connell hit a home run and knocked in four runs and Lakers teammates Tiler Whiteaker, Jayson Combs and Keatin Mohl each recorded a pair of hits in the win.

The Lakers hit around and took an 8-0 lead in the second inning, and piled on two more in the fourth to extend their lead to 10-0.

Libby answered back and scored its only run of the contest in the bottom of the fourth, but the Lakers ended the game early with three runs in the eighth. Leif Ericksen closed out the game, holding the Loggers scoreless in the home half of the inning to hand Kalispell the win.

Whiteaker, the Lakers’ starter, earned the win with a pair of strikeouts in three innings of work. Ericksen and Keatin Mohl combined for five strikeouts and one walk in the final five innings.

Mason Chapel was 2 for 3 from the plate to lead the Loggers, while Dylon Lane, Jared Winslow, Oliver Grupenhoff and Collin Johnson each picked up hits.

The Lakers will host the Canadian Days tournament at Griffin Field this weekend.
