Dogs, Cats lead NW A track

LIBBY — Carla Nicosia of Columbia Falls was the lone individual to win two events on the first day of the Northwestern A divisional track and field meet.

Nicosia had the best distance in the triple jump, 37 feet, 1/4 inch, and the best time in the 100 hurdles, 15.76 seconds, on Friday.

Columbia Falls, with 48 points, is second in the standings behind Whitefish, which has 69.

Columbia Falls had two individual winners with Samantha Mundel in the 1,600 (5:11.08) and Ellie Johnson in the discus (108-11 1/2).

Whitefish’s Grace Kurtz won the 400 (1:00.90) and Polson’s Lydia Bowman finished first in the pole vault (10-0).

Whitefish had the fastest time in the 400 relay.

On the boys side, Whitefish had three individual winners — Brian FauntLeRoy in the 400 (50.97), Keaton Grove in the 110 hurdles (15.52) and Tommy Sausen in the pole vault (13-6).

Whitefish also won the 400 relay.

Nathan Riley of Columbia Falls won the triple jump (42k-5 3/4) and Polson’s Mike Corrigan had the best throw in the discus (137-2).

Frank Dean of Frenchtown won the 1,600 (4:43.92).

Columbia Falls leads the boys standings with 85 1/2 points. Polsona dn Whitefish are tied for second with 55 each.
