MISSOULA — The Glacier girls placed in six of nine events and clinched the Western AA divisional track and field championship by one point over Missoula Big Sky on Saturday at Missoula County Stadium.

The Glacier boys missed out on a championship by four points, narrowly edged by Helena High.

Flathead’s boys were third, eight points back of the Bengals.

Depth on the roster boosted the Glacier girls, who trailed Missoula Big Sky with two events to go. The Wolfpack placed 2-3-4 in the triple jump to cut its deficit to six points, then placed second in the 1,600-meter relay to out-point the Eagles by seven and win the championship.

Wolfpack freshman Annie Hill won her third event of the championships, taking the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 55.27 seconds, more than 10 seconds faster than Flathead’s Gillian Maness and Kaitlin Wride behind her. Hill also won the 800 and 3,200 on Friday and anchored the title-clinching 1,600 relay.

Hill’s was the lone top finish for the Wolfpack on Saturday.

Glacier had two placers in the 400 and discus along with three in the triple jump.

Flathead’s Monica White finished second to Big Sky’s Hannah Porch in the 100 and 200 as the Bravettes finished fifth as a team.

Porch won three events on the final day, adding the triple jump to her sweep of the sprints. She won five events in total at the divisional meet.

Helena High won the boys team title in a close meet, despite a near sweep of events by the Kalispell schools on the final day.

Glacier senior Cain Boschee won the 100 by a hundredth of a second and the 200 by less than a 10th to take both sprints.

Aaron Robinson beat Flathead’s Chade Gonter by four hundredths of a second in the 110 hurdles and Harrison Kauffman won the discus on his last throw, tossing 18 inches further than Zayne Babbitt of Hellgate.

Flathead’s Jess Beaman went 44 feet, 7 inches to beat Glacier’s Devin Cochran in the triple jump.

Braves junior Jake Perrin ran 4:24.74 to win the 1,600 by a second.

Helena High’s wins in the 400 and 1,600 relay were enough to push the Bengals to a team victory.

Flathead and Glacier are home Friday and Saturday for the Class AA state meet at Legends Stadium.
