Whitefish boys, C-Falls girls claim NW A track crowns

LIBBY — Jed Nagler swept the sprints and also won a field event to guide Whitefish’s boys to the Northwestern A divisional track and field championship on Saturday.

Nagler had the winning times in the 100 (11.15) and 200 (22.57) and cleared 6-4 to take the high jump.

Whitefish finished with a 159 total, to finish comfortably in front of runner-up Frenchtown, which had 135 points.

Of the 10 events held on the second day, Whitefish totaled seven firsts.

Luke Cardon won the 800 (2:00.06), Keaton Grove was first in the 300 hurdles (40.64) and Luke May had the best throw in the javelin (199-3).

The other first for Whitefish was in the 1,600 relay.

Columbia Falls was just as dominant on the girls side as the Wildkats had a placer in all 10 events to pile up a 187 1/2 point total. Whitefish was second with 143.

Samantha Mundel was a double winner for Columbia Falls with firsts in the 800 (2:23.37) and 3,200 (11:10.80). The other firsts for the team were turned in by Allyson Gimbel in the shot put (36-11 1/2) and the 1,600 relay team.

Grace Kurtz won the 100 (13.05) and 200 (26.71) for Whitefish.

Whitefish’s other two event winners were Allie Schulz in the 300 hurdles (46.91) and Kate Doorn in the high jump (5-2).

Libby’s Krysten Mossburg won the long jump (15-10 1/4).

The top five qualifiers in all events advance to the Class A state meet in Laurel on Friday and Saturday.
