Getts, Briones advance to state semis in Class A tennis
MISSOULA — Emily Getts of Columbia Falls and Walter Briones of Libby have advanced to the semifinal round of singles play after Thursday’s opening-day action at the Class A state tennis tournament.
Getts defeated Brittney Schaff of Hardin, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round and Amber Wissenbach of Corvallis, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
Briones took care of Jesse Knapp of Corvallis, 6-2, 6-2 in the opener and rolled by Carsen Boynton of Anaconda in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-2.
Losing in the singles quarterfinals were Marlee Congdon of Polson, 6-1, 6-3 to Emilee Coleman of Livingston, and Paula Fernandez of Libby, 6-0. 6-1 to Laramie McHugh of Corvallis.
In doubles, Polson’s Cadis Chowning/Tommy Mercer and Colin Kenney/Quaid Harlan won their first-round matches, but lost in the quarterfinals as did teammates Taylor Rost/Shawna Lenz.
Whitefish’s Heather Luedke/Hannah Medsen and Anna Peterson/Katie Fyall also lost in the quarterfinals.
On the team front, the Billings Central boys and Livingston girls are on top.
