Libby, Polson start fast at state
ANACONDA — Libby and Polson were both victories in first-round action Thursday at the Class A state softball tournament at Charlotte Yeoman Fields.
Libby, behind the talented pitching of Hannah England, dropped Laurel 3-0.
Polson, led by hitting stars Sarah Rausch and Hannah Fryberger, slammed Anaconda 11-1.
England fanned 10 Laurel hitters, allowed just two hits and walked two batters.
Libby had just three hits, one each by Madisen Monigold, Abbey Ennenga and Staci Regh.
Rausch and Fryberger both went 3 for 3.
Jaiden Toth, Kaelen Wall, Haley Fyant and Skyla Krantz had two hits apiece for Polson.
Polson scored in every inning but the third.
The Pirates followed that by defeating Billings Central 8-1 in the second round.
Polson had two big innings, scoring three runs in the third and coming back with four more in the fourth.
Wall and Rausch both went 2 for 4 and had two RBIs each.
Wall tripled and homered while Rausch had a double.
Taylor Brackey also doubled.
Polson will face Frenchtown today at 1 p.m.
Frenchtown had just one outing on Thursday, dumping Butte Central 10-0.
Libby, on the other hand, came up short in its second outing.
Belgrade (15-6)scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 victory.
Mahalah Wedel and Devon Gallagher both went 2 for 4 with an RBI for Libby.
Libby (18-6) drops into loser-out action today to face Livingston at 11 a.m.
