Libby's Briones 3rd, Columbia Falls' Getts 4th at Class A state tennis
MISSOULA — Walter Briones of Libby finished third while Emily Getts of Columbia Falls was fourth and Marlee Congdon of Polson was sixth in singles play at the Class A state tournament on Friday.
Briones lost to eventual champion DJ Pekoc of Corvallis in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-3.
Briones came back to defeat Alex Raymond of Hamilton, 6-1, 6-0 for third place.
Getts, a fourth-place finisher a year ago, lost in the semifinals to eventual champion Barclay Fagg of Billings Central, 6-2, 6-2.
In the third-place match, Emilee Coleman of Livingston stopped Getts, a junior, 6-3, 6-3.
Amber Wissenbach of Corvallis slipped by Congdon in the fifth/sixth place match, 7-5, 7-5.
On the team front, it was Billings Central, Corvallis and Havre as the top three finishers in the boys field.
Livingston, Billings Central and Corvallis went 1-2-3 on the girls side.
