Legion Baseball: Lane, Loggers take down Rangers, 8-3
EUREKA — The Libby Loggers, supported by a five-run eighth inning, topped the Kootenai Valley Rangers for an 8-3 American legion baseball victory on Friday night.
It was a back and forth contest early in the game. The Loggers pushed a run across in both the first and third innings to take and early 2-0 lead.
The Rangers, who scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, added two runs in the sixth for a 3-2 advantage.
But the Loggers rallied.
The five-spot in the top of the eighth was more than enough for Libby pitcher Dylan Lane, who shut out the Rangers the rest of the way for the complete-game victory.
Lane scattered eight hits in nine innings of work while striking out six batters.
Libby’s Jared Winslow finished 4 for 5 with an RBI and two runs scored, and the Loggers combined for 12 hits in the game.
Oliver Grupenhoff went 2 for 5 with an RBI for Libby, while teammates Luke Haggerty and Collin Johnson scored two runs each.
Colton Henrie was 2 for 3 for Kootenai Valley, and teammate James Dunn hit an RBI double.
Jacob Nowakowski tripled for the Rangers.
The Loggers are home for a double-header against the Cranbrook Bandits on Sunday. First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
