LETTER: Did you campaign to raise taxes?
Kudos to Ann Egerter from Bigfork for her letter to the editor about the disturbing trend in the valley for new bond issues.
While I have nothing against the 911 bond IF it is only $25 a year, that is just the tip of the iceberg. I just got my property tax bill and it is up $200 from two years ago. This is just for the increase associated with the increase in mills levied!
For my district, in the next year I can look forward to also having to pay for the new Bigfork solid waste substation, which is five miles farther from me than Creston; the Bigfork High School levy; and the 911 levy. That is an increase of 33 percent in the last three years and my property is listed as Kalispell. Add to this the push for a new jail and I can easily see my taxes going up 50 percent in four years. When will this end?
Did not the Republicans in control ALL campaign on platforms of “lower taxation”? Well, if this is “lower taxation” maybe we need to find some new leaders. I remember that when Joe Brenneman, a Democrat, was commissioner, there was at least a voice of reason concerning tax increases.
Ms. Egerter, I can’t agree with you more. Enough is enough! —Michael Thoennes, Kalispell
