William Burchard Goodwin, 81

William Burchard Goodwin, 81, passed away Oct. 26, 2015. 

Bill was a resident of Brookdale Cotswold Assisted Living in Charlotte, North Carolina. 

He was born on Nov. 20, 1933, in Manila, the Philippine Islands, to Elizabeth Smith Goodwin and Ret. Col. Arthur Cleveland Goodwin Jr. 

He is survived by his brother, Arthur Cleveland Goodwin III, and his wife, Martha Kennedy Goodwin. 

Married for 18 years to Rosemarie Brucia, Bill had no children. There is a large family comprised of cousins, nieces and nephews spanning four generations.

Bill graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial administration and St. Lawrence University with a Master’s in Education degree. 

After serving in the United States Army, Bill worked in the mechanical design department at Grumman Aviation before embarking on his first love — teaching mathematics and coaching both soccer and track and field. 

As an avid backpacker and skier, Bill retired to Kalispell in June 1989 with access to Glacier National Park and the Big Mountain ski area. It was a 14-year odyssey with wonderful, still active friendships too numerous to mention. Montana was a true highlight in Bill’s western retirement.
