Free-spirited kitty freed by woman

Flathead County Sheriff’s deputies responded after an upset woman from an office on Ridgewood Drive called about finding a cat with bloody feet in a trap and releasing it. An animal control officer found the trap and concluded that the cat probably had hurt its feet while trying to claw its way out. The animal control officer explained that it was legal to trap cats, but the woman vehemently disagreed, saying that cats were “free spirits,” and that cat trapping should not be legal.

A father on Hodgson Road in Columbia Falls asked for assistance after the bank took money from his business account after his daughter wrote nearly $5,000 worth of personal checks that bounced. The woman was an authorized signer on her father’s personal account.

A woman on South Main Street in Kalispell was told to cancel as many checks as possible after she gave $23,000 to a Nigerian scam.

A woman on Antelope Trail in Whitefish asked for extra patrol after her ex-boyfriend repeatedly entered her property without permission and keyed her car.

Officers were told to be on the lookout for a man who had $200,000 in warrants after a family member reported that the man made threats about jumping on a train to Oregon. He had cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet the night before. The man posted messages on Facebook claiming that he wanted to go out “with a bang.” The comments were linked to video of a song that talked about “standing up and shooting people.”

A man on Freckles Road got a visit from a deputy after he allegedly told an insurance agent that he had a gun at the ready while discussing a claim with an insurance company about a car crash. The man said that he did not mean for the remark to be a threat.

Five guns were stolen when someone kicked in a door on Three Mile Drive.

A business on U.S. 2 East was burglarized after thieves broke in through a window.

A deputy was dispatched to make sure everything was OK after a passerby saw an unmanned baby stroller on a walking path off U.S. 93. The deputy found a stroller with a blanket inside.

Deputies were unable to locate a man on Whalebone Drive who had failed to show up for work for four days in a row. The man originally called in sick on Thursday, but had not checked in sick. Co-workers were worried and couldn’t find where the man had been booked into the hospital or the jail, so they asked law enforcement for help.

A small elk was found wounded by a suspected gunshot wound off Brown Road in Kalispell. Fish and game officers were dispatched.

A woman on Dogwood Avenue was given information about how to get a restraining order against her ex-girlfriend.

A deputy logged a report after a woman in Marion claimed that her live-in boyfriend had threatened to blow her head off. The man has a history of being abusive to the woman.

A man on Rhodes Draw reported that he had gotten his friend a job, but that the friend had been fired. The friend had not turned in his key to the business or his company cellphone. The friend allegedly had also racked up some traffic infractions after he did not properly insure the company vehicle he had been driving. The man was told that the issue was a civil one.


Whitefish Police found a man OK after his family reported that he had gone off his medication and made threatening remarks against his father. The responding officer advised the man to call 911 if he needed assistance.

A man threatened to slit a nurse’s throat and staff confiscated a knife at a hospital before calling deputies.


A Columbia Falls Police officer was called off after being dispatched initially to handle a disruptive student. The student’s mom showed up and the behavior continued, but the school did not think an officer was still needed.

A business on Ninth Street West reported that it had documentation of an internal theft on video.

A woman on Columbia Drive asked for guidance after her son’s 18-year-old friend showed up looking for a place to stay. The boy had been kicked out of his house. The woman’s son and husband were away hunting. The boy’s mother called officers a short-time later saying that she was worried he had left the home because he was a special needs child. The mother was happy to know her son was safe.


Kalispell Police responded to a hospital neonatal unit where a mother had refused treatment after giving birth a day before. The mother wanted to take the premature baby home against doctor’s orders. Child Protective Services was given custody of the baby.

Three men were trespassed from a property on U.S. 93 and given a verbal warning after they were found in a pool that they were not supposed to be in. The reporting party tried to conduct a citizen’s arrest on a fourth subject, who ran away and attacked the attempted arresting party.

A suspect was taken to jail after it was reported that he or she was running through parking lots cursing and threatening to kill people. Officers found the suspect had also violated prior conditions of release.
