LETTER: Beware phone scam claiming to be from IRS

Here is the latest scam phone call supposedly originating from the Internal Revenue Service.

“Hello, this call is officially a final notice from the IRS, Internal Revenue Service. The IRS is filing lawsuit against you. To get more information about this case file call immediately on our department number...” They then give a phone number to call.

Be aware, the IRS never contacts you directly by phone or by email. Instead it is by USPS mail so they can leave a legal paper trail. The above has already been reported to the IRS. These scam artists are preying on the elderly and poorly informed so they can drain their bank accounts. Don’t be a victim. —Norm Johnson, Polson
