Bike thief trades in his old wheels

Kalispell Police Department responded to Fourth Avenue East after a person reported that someone had stolen an 18-speed Schwinn mountain bike, but was kind enough to leave behind another bicycle in its place. An officer impounded the left-behind bike.

Officers helped a woman on East Wyoming Street after her brother broke the door down to access her residence. The woman barricaded herself in her bedroom as her brother tried to beat in the door. She was afraid he would hit her if he succeeded in getting in the room. The woman said she thought her brother and his girlfriend, who was also at the scene, might be on methamphetamine. Shortly after police took a report and left, the brother returned and shoved his sister across the room. The sister said the man was mocking her about calling officers. The parties were separated and officers advised the woman about the process of getting a restraining order.

Police confirmed that a couple had separated for a bit after a woman called 911 but was unable to give an address as she fought with her boyfriend. The boyfriend allegedly said he did not care if the woman called police because he would mess with them if they arrived on scene. After pinging the woman’s cell phone the couple was found at a coffee shop.

A woman on Sixth Avenue reported that she had recently broken up with her boyfriend but that did not stop him from texting non-stop into the wee hours of the morning. The woman was afraid the man might show up at her work because he had threatened to do so.

A homeless and disabled man called animal control to ask them to take possession of his cat because he no longer had the means to care for it.

A man driving on U.S. 93 called to report that he had run his car into some rocks after he fell asleep at the wheel. The man said he also possibly hit a water pipe.

A woman on Liberty Street called to report a theft of personal hygiene items from her apartment. She thought a homeless person who was visiting someone in the building might have committed the theft.

A woman on 10th Avenue West reported that another woman was trying to break into her apartment so the pair could fight. A responding officer found the alleged trespasser had left the scene by the time he arrived. The woman explained that the pair were in a disagreement about an ex-boyfriend.

Officers confirmed that a woman was OK after her mother called concerned because she got a message from her daughter’s phone saying that the girl couldn’t call police if someone hurt her.


Whitefish Police Department responded to Spokane Avenue where a person who was moving had a tent, electronics, a 60-gigabyte iPod, iPod Shuffle, and iPod Mini stolen.

An officer responded to Central Avenue where four security guards had tackled a man to the ground for assaulting someone.

A drunken man called from Central Avenue to say that he had been assaulted by a bar’s security staff. The man told dispatchers that he was on probation for bail jumping. It was suggested that the man sleep it off and call back the next day if he wanted to make a report.

An officer logged a report after a drunken man broke into a home on Kalispell Avenue. The occupant’s boyfriend was able to get the man to leave. The man was later taken to the station by an officer.
