LETTER: Candidate vows to fight to halt Syrian refugees
Now that it has been confirmed a Syrian refugee in France was one of the ISIS members responsible for the attacks in Paris, it is high time that Gov. Bullock lead Montana in joining the host of other governors across America in rejecting any refugees from Syria.
Though the governor released a statement saying that state officials are reviewing the state’s process of accepting refugees, Montanans need a firmer stance by their governor and state officials that ensures their protection and security.
The federal government does not have the constitutional authority to force us as Montanans to accept these refugees and bear the social, financial and security burdens of hosting them in our state.
If Gov. Bullock fails to stand against this unconstitutional intrusion into our state sovereignty and if I am elected to the Montana Legislature in 2016, I will make it a legislative priority to pass legislation that prohibits the placement of refugees from Syria into the state of Montana.
One of the foundational principles of our government is to provide for the security and welfare of the citizens, and where the federal government fails to provide this security and well being, the state government of Montana must rise to the occasion and protect our citizens.
If elected to serve the people in Helena, I will work tirelessly to protect our state’s citizens from federal overreach and foreign threats. —Taylor Rose, Columbia Falls, GOP candidate for House District 3
