LETTER: Christians, Jews need to join fight to defeat evil

I believe it was Edmund Burke who advised us that, “All that’s necessary for evil to succeed is for enough men to do nothing.” Even Albert Einstein was concerned that, “The problem with evil was not only with those who do it but equally with those who let it happen.”

As we look back through human history we discover a persistent truth that the failure to confront evil is in fact what enables it to succeed.

The tragic Islamic terrorist attacks in Paris were perhaps inevitable given the way non-conforming militant Islam has been welcomed, accommodated and appeased in France for the last several years. They have been allowed to violate laws, set up their own private enclaves or no-go zones, establish their own sharia systems and culture, demand special privileges and concessions, and blatantly refuse to assimilate with the French. Add an explosive spark, in this case ISIS, and the results should have been predictable. This same recipe for disaster exists in Germany, Belgium, Holland, and England as they too have failed to realize that accommodation and appeasement are the futile last gasps of a failing society.

As we look at the evil that is pre-eminently evidenced by radical Islam, any rational Christian or Jew cannot but recognize it as a most serious threat to the practice of those faiths. Islam’s continuing persecution of other faiths goes back 1,400 years. One would think therefore, that the Christian and Jewish faiths would be in the forefront in the fight to combat this evil. On the contrary, they are not even on the battlefield and their failure to confront this threat is once again, what is enabling it to succeed.

Is America any different? We have an administration and media and academic institutions that in the interests of multi-cultural diversity, moral relevance, and political correctness, the new three-headed god of our culture, are doing everything possible to accommodate our own demise. The Muslim Brotherhood’s published (and entered into evidence in federal court) plan to overthrow the United States from within by stealth and subversion is being aided and abetted by our own government. If I recall correctly, aiding and abetting the enemy is the definition of treason. But even our Congress with the new Republican majority in both houses is unwilling to combat the threat of radical Islam. So we too are enabling a form of self-delusional suicide by failing to confront this evil.
