Richard 'Dick' Gordon Askvig, 82
Richard “Dick” Gordon Askvig passed away Oct. 26, 2015, at his home in Kalispell.
He was born in Minot, North Dakota, on Feb. 11, 1933. He graduated from Carpio High School and served in the Army for two years.
Dick attended the Lutheran Bible Institute where he met the love of his life, Darlene Block. They were married on June 23, 1957. They resided in Bloomington, Minnesota, where they had four children, DeLon, Twila, Daniel and Darryl. They were members of Emmaus Lutheran Church.
Dick worked in a warehouse, was a real estate agent and worked in management at a wallboard plant. He and Darlene retired to their Wisconsin lake cabin in 1995. In 2000 they moved to Kalispell to be closer to their family. They also spent winters in Texas and Arizona.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Ella; his son, Daniel; brothers, Ole, Jerold and Donald; sisters Frances and Della; and a great-grandson.
Dick is survived by his wife, Darlene; and his children, DeLon and Barb Askvig, Twila and Randy Kjos, Jean Askvig, and Darryl and Rose Askvig. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Melissa and Phil Wiebe, David and Jackie Askvig, Andrea and Logan Shawback, Ricky Kjos, Kayla Kjos, Jessie and Brad Clarke, Ben and Gen Askvig, Bill Askvig, Rachel Soto, Draylen and Marcie Askvig, and David and Dayna Bruyer; and 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Byrd; and brothers, Lloyd and Alrie.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 27 at Stillwater Free Lutheran Church.
