HOCKEY: Whitefish Wolverines subdue Cobras, 8-0
WHITEFISH — The Whitefish Wolverines scored three goals in the second period to break open a scoreless game in an eventual 8-0 rout of Butte on Saturday in a Western States Hockey League game at the Stumptown Ice Den.
The Wolverines outshot Butte 9-4 in the first period but couldn’t find the net while playing shorthanded for most of the frame thanks to three minor penalties.
Whitefish finally got through on a 5-on-3 early in the second period, Raimo Eskelinen finding the net for his fourth goal of the season. Booker Chacalias and Kieffer Helbing would score later in the period to give the Wolverines a comfortable lead.
Brendan Bessee, Connor Brennan and Greg Houle scored in the first 10 minutes of the third period to put the game on ice before Riley Ingalls scored two late goals to cap the scoring. Ingalls now has seven goals in the last two games after a five goal, one assist night on Friday.
Chase Krompocker made 23 saves in net to earn the shutout.
The Wolverines finish their three-game homestand with the Cobras this afternoon at 1:35 p.m. at Stumptown Ice Den.
