LETTER: Property owner miffed he can't vote in election

| October 1, 2015 11:00 AM

I am a property owner in the Bigfork School District and expected to receive a ballot for the upcoming election.

When none came I checked with the school district office and I learned I am not a qualified voter for this election — I pay property tax in the district, I own a home on 12 acres within the district, and I am a qualified registered voter in Flathead County.

Here’s the catch, I now reside in Kalispell, closer to doctors and hospital, and therefore am not eligible as a qualified voter in the Bigfork School District bond election. My property will be assessed if the bond is approved and the taxes will increase without the representation of my vote. The district representative told me other property owners are finding themselves in my shoes — facing taxation without representation.
