Joan Powell, 85
Joan Powell, 85, “went to the Lord” on Oct. 2, 2015, at her home in the Springs of Whitefish surrounded by her Montana family.
She was born Feb. 22, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York.
She is survived by her brother, George Hucke and wife Angela; her sister-in-law, Anita Hucke, and several nieces and nephews in New York.
Her husband, Leonard, preceded her in death three years ago. He was the love of her life, and she missed him dearly. They both loved to sing and square dance, and were part of their church choir in Bigfork.
The last several years were difficult for Joan, as she suffered many physical ailments which made life more challenging. She lost her husband, which was the hardest thing she ever had to deal with, but was blessed by many caregivers and staff members at the Springs. Every one of these caring people had a special part in Joan’s life, and because of them, she was not alone. Friendships were developed, lessons were taught, and blessings were in abundance.
In lieu of flowers, please spend some time with an elderly acquaintance or relative who may need a friend, a hug, or just to know that someone still cares. There be a viewing from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Blessed John Paul II Catholic Church in Bigfork. Funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. at the Blessed John Paul II Catholic Church in Bigfork, followed by a reception at the church from 2 to 3p.m. Burial will follow the reception at 3:30 p.m. at Bigfork Community Cemetery.
Austin Funeral Home is caring for Joan’s family.
