Flathead runners medal at Sunfair Invitational
YAKIMA, Wash. — The Flathead girls finished sixth and the Flathead boys were ninth at the Sunfair Invitational cross country meet on Saturday.
Kaitlin Wride (18:36) and Nicole Bouma (19:00) both finished first in the second and third heat races, respectively, for the Bravettes.
Wride’s time was the second fastest at the meet.
Gillian Maness (18:57) was fifth in the first heat.
Also for Flathead, Meaghan Fisher (20:55) was seventh in the sixth heat, Julian Kaptanian (21:01) was 15th in the fourth heat, Madison Edwards was 19th in the fifth heat and Kelsey Noland Gillespie (22:44) was 20th in the seventh heat.
“The Bravettes were the talk of the meet with two first place finishes, and made quite the impression,” Flathead girls coach Jesse Rumsey said.
The Flathead boys had four individuals place in the top 10 — Derek Macfarlane (17:05) was fourth in the third heat, Ben Perrin was sixth in the fourth heat, Jaden Anderson (17:08) was ninth in the fifth heat and Jake Perrin (16:02) was ninth in the seventh heat.
Also for the Braves — Griffin Fischer (17:44) was 10th in the first heat, Jacob Calles (16:59) was 12th in the sixth heat and Darrow Lane (17:57) was 16th in the second heat.
Flathead’s Alex Murphy (17:14) won the sophomore race.
“Overall, the performance was real good, everybody competed hard,” Flathead boys coach Paul Jorgensen said.
“They had reasonable success. Most of the guys were in the top 15, except for one, so that was pretty good. Our freshman boys competed very well.”
More than 32 teams and 2,500 runners from Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington competed.
