LETTER: Why 'common sense,' politics don't mix
The reason why “common sense gun control” can’t work is because of the nature of political correctness.
If you make a compromise with the P.C. people it immediately results in a demand for yet another compromise.
If you ban assault rifles, they will ask that high capacity clips be banned the same day. If you ban the clips, they’ll move on to handguns.
if you ban handguns, they will take the next step and move to rifles. This can be observed in many different ways in the U.S. as well as the U.K. and Australia.
I know that some religious denominations do not allow women to be ordained ministers because the next step will be demanding that homosexuals be ministers.
Perversely, it’s the liberals and P.C. people instead of the conservatives that have created the situation where “common sense” compromise is simply is not an option. —Roger Thomas Sayre, Kalispell
