Soccer roundup: Flathead boys earn draw, girls lose; Helena sweeps away Glacier
Flathead and Helena Capital each failed to find a goal as the two played to a 0-0 draw Thursday afternoon at Kidsports Complex in Western AA soccer action.
The Braves lost to Capital (2-7-2), 3-2, earlier this season.
“We played really well,” Flathead coach Nate Evans said.
“Our kids are playing really good soccer right now.”
Flathead (3-4-4) has blanked three of its last four opponents but gone just 1-0-3 during that stretch.
“We’re not getting the wins that we want but we’re not losing either,” Evans said.
“It’s just a matter of time before those balls find the back of the net.”
Flathead returns to the pitch today at 10 a.m. when it host Helena.

Helena High 5, Glacier 1
Helena erupted for four goals in a 12-minute stretch and took down Glacier in a match featuring two of the top three teams in Western AA.
The Bengals (8-3-0) got on the board in the eighth minute and scored once more in the 11th and twice in the 20th minute.
The Wolfpack was playing for the first time without senior center back Ben Wright, and his absence was noticeable early.
“This was the first time with a new back line and it took us a little while to get adjusted,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said. “But once we adjusted we felt like we did pretty well.”
The hosting Wolfpack (5-5-1) scored its goal in the 29th minute when Colton Becker finished a pass from Mat Martini.
“It felt surreal,” Billiet said.
“We were doing good things and we generated six or seven good opportunities. We felt like we finished the game really strong.”
“Anybody who was watching that game knows the score wasn’t indicative of how the game went.”
Each team had eight shots on goal.
The Wolfpack returns to action today at 10 a.m. against Helena Capital.

Undefeated Helena flexed its muscles, blanking Glacier.
“Helena is an absolutely outstanding team and they took advantage of every little break they had,” Glacier coach Brenden Byrd said.
“But we played a full game today and the girls are holding their heads high after playing a game like that.”
The Wolfpack was down only 1-0 at halftime after Kamden Hilborn scored the first of her three goals in the 32nd minute.

Helena Capital 3, Flathead 1
Flathead controlled the first 40 minutes of action but Helena Capital made the most of their opportunities in the second half to down the Bravettes on senior night at Kidsports in Western AA action.
“We came out and played great,” Flathead coach Cory Wilson said.
“We hit a crossbar and had multiple looks but nothing we could put away.”
“Hats off to (Capital),” he continued.
“Capital came out in the second half, played really hard and did a good job finishing.”
Capital had only one first-half shot, but it found the back of the net when Josie Warren scored in the 22nd minute.
The Bravettes would answer with their lone goal 10 minutes later when Alexa May set up Stephanie Wilson.
Cassie Brisko scored twice in the second half to give the Bruins (3-4-4) the win.
Despite the loss, Wilson was especially pleased with a pair of standout individual efforts.
“Lara Zander in the back has been a rock for us at center back all year and Alexa May had a great game for us, too. She did a great job distributing and receiving the ball.”
