Boys soccer: Stillwater advances at MCAA state tournament
Stillwater Christian scored four second-half goals to blow past Yellowstone County Homeschool and into the semifinals of the Montana Christian Athletic Association tournament on Thursday afternoon on its home field.
The Cougars dominated the action throughout, out-shooting Yellowstone 17-2, yet led just 1-0 at halftime.
“We had a number of balls go off the post and the crossbar and their keeper made some nice saves,” Stillwater coach Ryan O’Rourke said.
“They started off very defensively and it took us a little while to put the ball in the back of the net.”
Nicholas Sulzbacher netted the first half’s only goal in the 16th minute and Isaac Neuman tallied the game-winner early in the second half. B.J. Bach answered a Knights goal with a penalty strike in the 49th minute and the Cougars tacked on two more scores late.
Winners of the last 12 MCAA state soccer championships, Stillwater will host Foothills Christian in the semifinals tonight at 5 p.m.
