LETTER: Parking situation has improved around FHS

| October 23, 2015 11:00 AM

I would like to take a moment to comment on the resolution of the parking issue surrounding Flathead High School. While it is not the perfect solution, nor the one everyone wanted, residents (me being one of them) can now actually have a parking space in front of their homes on school days.

No race to get to the store and back before 8:00 a.m. Should you need a repair done, the serviceman can actually park within sight of your home! UPS actually was able to deliver to my front door instead of the usual alley. Plus, I don’t miss the loitering and littering at the noon hour.

No, it is not great that guests need a permit, but the restrictions are for school hours and days only. Since each resident has two free permits, you can easily let a guest use one of yours if need be. It is not a financial burden as some would lead you to believe. Most households have at least one party gone during the school day. The fact of the matter is that before the permits, no one would have been able to visit during the hours of 8-4, period!

I do believe school parking is indeed a problem for the school district to solve, but since that wasn’t happening, I am happy to have the solution we at least are trying for now. Believe it or not, you don’t see many purchased permits on the opposite side of the street either.  Hmmmm, they must be actually using the school parking lots! I’m told they have just moved down to Ninth Street, but for now, those of us benefiting thank all those who helped it come to fruition. —Tammy Balkenbush, Kalispell
